About Taxes in Mexico

Scott Graville

Scott Graville has an extensive background in accounting and finance.  He is an Enrolled Agent to practice before the IRS and has held various securities licenses including the Series 7 and Series 63. Scott completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Southern California receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance and a minor in economics.

Scott later completed his MBA at the University of Chicago in 2004, graduating with honors and with focuses in finance and accounting.  Scott’s original income tax preparation work occurred in the Los Angeles area at the firm Robert Hall and Associates in the late 1990s. Scott later worked for almost 10 years in Investment Banking for the firms A.G. Edwards & Sons, UBS and Goldman Sachs, finishing his career as a Vice President in the Consumer Retail Investment Banking practice of Goldman Sachs in its Los Angeles office. 

Scott joined with Marian Wellman at Taxes in Mexico in 2011,becoming a partner in 2012.  He was also a Professor of Finance (taught in Spanish) at the University of Guadalajara CUCEA campus for four years. Scott has formed and operated small businesses in Mexico and brings his personal experience dealing with the labyrinth of regulatory compliance requirements as an expat in Mexico. Scott brings his passion and drive for client service excellence to Taxes in Mexico with an enthusiasm for helping to ensure our clients receive the best value for their money.

Marian Wellman

Marian Wellman has had an income tax and financial planning practice for over 25 years, and is thoroughly educated and trained in all aspects of financial advising.  Following receipt of an MBA in Finance from University of Colorado, she began her career in 1983 with the predecessor of today’s Ameriprise Financial Services, a division of American Express.  She spent ten years with a boutique Denver firm specializing in income tax preparation, comprehensive financial planning, real estate and investments, and launched her own private practice in 1996. 

As Wellman Financial Consulting, she partnered with estate planning attorneys and insurance executives to provide a unique combination of complete financial advice for each client, from the simplest tax preparation to comprehensive planning.  In addition, Marian also served as a Planned Giving Director for a church-based multi-state charitable foundation, and served on boards of several non-profit agencies.

Marian has earned many certifications and designations, including Certified Financial Planner, Certified Estate Planner, as well as Registered Principal for her firm.  An accomplished public speaker, she provided dozens of lectures and workshops yearly on a full range of tax planning and financial topics to audiences in several states.  She was an Enrolled Agent (enabling client representation before the IRS), a Registered Investment Advisor with Individual Asset Management, and continued her income tax-financial planning practice in Mexico after moving in 2004.
